Winifred Nicholson (1893-1981)

Nicholson studied at the Byam Shaw School of Art and in the years following had two paintings accepted and exhibition at the RA Summer Exhibition. She married Ben Nicholson in 1920 and together they travel extensively, eventually buying a villa in Italy in which they spend every winter. In 1920 she was elected as a member of the Seven and Five Society and in 1925 has her first solo exhibition at Beaux Arts Gallery. In 1979 the Scottish Arts Council organise a major retrospective of her work which then travels round the UK. She has regular exhibitions in London right up until her death in 1981.
